NDIS Worker Screening Check (NDISWC)

A national clearance for NDIS risk-assessed roles, valid five years, with criminal-history screening built in.

The NDIS Worker Screening Check is a national clearance required for anyone in a risk-assessed role delivering supports to people with disability. You apply through your state or territory worker screening unit, but the clearance is recognised nationally and stays valid for five years, with ongoing monitoring across that period.

Criminal-history screening is built into the check, so a worker who holds a current NDIS clearance does not need a separate National Police Check for the same role. The clearance can be suspended or revoked if new information comes to light, which is why it is monitored continuously rather than assessed only once.

For workers, the clearance is portable: it follows you between NDIS providers and across state lines, so you usually only need one. For providers, the duty is to confirm each worker in a risk-assessed role holds a current, cleared check before they start and to keep watching for any status change. Koora reviews the clearance and tracks its expiry. See the state-by-state guide for application detail.

This is general information, not compliance advice. Always confirm requirements with the relevant regulator, and remember that providers keep the legal responsibility to sight credentials and decide who can work.

We work hard to keep it accurate, but the rules change and we will not always get every detail right. If you think something here needs updating, email us at resources@koora.care. We would genuinely rather know, because we all do better when we help each other get it right.
