Manual handling training
Training in safe moving, transferring and lifting; common mandatory training for hands-on care roles.
Manual handling training teaches care workers how to move, transfer, reposition and lift safely, both to protect the people they support and to avoid injuring themselves. It typically covers using hoists, slide sheets and transfer aids, assessing a situation before you move someone, and good body mechanics during everyday tasks like helping a person out of bed or into a chair.
For hands-on roles in Aged Care and disability, manual handling is one of the most common pieces of mandatory training a provider will ask you to complete, often during induction and then as a regular refresher. The exact content and how often you refresh it varies between employers, because each provider builds it into their own work health and safety obligations rather than following a single national rulebook.
For care workers, keeping this training current shows a provider you can safely take on physical support tasks from day one. Recording it on your Career Passport alongside your other mandatory training means you do not have to repeat the same induction module every time you start with a new provider.
This is general information, not compliance advice. Always confirm requirements with the relevant regulator, and remember that providers keep the legal responsibility to sight credentials and decide who can work.
We work hard to keep it accurate, but the rules change and we will not always get every detail right. If you think something here needs updating, email us at resources@koora.care. We would genuinely rather know, because we all do better when we help each other get it right.
