Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
A provider authorised to deliver nationally recognised vocational qualifications.
A Registered Training Organisation is a training provider authorised to deliver and assess nationally recognised qualifications and units of competency. RTOs are listed on training.gov.au and are regulated by the Australian Skills Quality Authority in most states and territories. Across the care sector, RTOs deliver the vocational qualifications that underpin most frontline roles, such as the Certificate III in Individual Support for Aged Care and disability work, and the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care for childcare.
For workers, the key point is that a qualification only counts when it comes from a current RTO and carries a nationally recognised code. Certificates issued by an organisation that was not registered at the time of study may not be accepted by employers or recognised toward later study.
For providers, RTO origin matters when reviewing a worker's qualifications. Koora reviews uploaded certificates as part of building a Career Passport; we do not contact the issuing RTO to confirm authenticity, so providers retain responsibility for sighting originals where their own policies require it.
This is general information, not compliance advice. Always confirm requirements with the relevant regulator, and remember that providers keep the legal responsibility to sight credentials and decide who can work.
We work hard to keep it accurate, but the rules change and we will not always get every detail right. If you think something here needs updating, email us at resources@koora.care. We would genuinely rather know, because we all do better when we help each other get it right.
