Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA)
The national authority administering the childcare National Quality Framework and the worker register.
The Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) is the national body that oversees the National Quality Framework for childcare and early childhood education. It guides how services are assessed and rated against the National Quality Standard, approves qualifications, and supports consistency across the state and territory regulatory authorities that do the day-to-day regulating.
ACECQA also administers the National Quality Agenda IT System (NQA IT System), the national destination where register uploads are lodged. The new national early childhood worker register is being introduced under the 2026 child safety reforms, with ACECQA at the centre of how worker records are held nationally.
For educators, ACECQA's role shows up in the qualifications it recognises and the worker register your details sit in. For providers, it means keeping educator qualifications, Working with Children Checks and register entries accurate and current, because services are rated on quality areas that include staffing arrangements. Koora helps services keep these worker records in one place ahead of the childcare reforms.
This is general information, not compliance advice. Always confirm requirements with the relevant regulator, and remember that providers keep the legal responsibility to sight credentials and decide who can work.
We work hard to keep it accurate, but the rules change and we will not always get every detail right. If you think something here needs updating, email us at resources@koora.care. We would genuinely rather know, because we all do better when we help each other get it right.
