Making the invisible visible: introducing Koora

Introducing Koora, the Career Passport for Australia's care workers, and the vision for making good care work visible.

1 min read

For too long, care work has been invisible. The skill, the judgement and the trust that care workers build vanish the moment they change employer. We are setting out to change that.

What Koora is

Koora is the Career Passport for Australia's care workers: a portable, worker-held record of their credentials that travels between employers, across Aged Care, Disability and Childcare.

  • Workers build their Career Passport once. It is free for workers.
  • Koora reviews the credentials a worker holds, and verifies the ones that can be confirmed against an authoritative source, such as a state Working With Children Check register, AHPRA, or a government ban register.
  • Credential expiry is tracked, so a lapse is flagged before it becomes a problem.

Two honest ways to use it

  1. Review the workers you have already found. Most providers hire through referrals and their own channels. A worker who arrives with a Career Passport brings reviewed, current credentials, so onboarding starts from a clean record rather than a fresh paperwork round.
  2. Carry your credentials between roles. For workers, the same Career Passport is ready to share with any provider that uses Koora.

What we are careful to say, and not say

Koora is the pre-clearance layer. It does not take on a provider's legal obligations. Providers remain responsible for confirming each worker meets the requirements for their role and for keeping records. We make that work less onerous; we do not make it disappear.

We are also early, and we will say so. We are building in the open and we are careful not to claim a track record we have not yet earned.

The vision

In the short term, the goal is simple: save providers time, and give workers credentials that follow them. Over time, we want good care work to be visible, so reputation can travel with the worker and quality can compound across the sector.

We're here to uplift care. This is where it starts.

This is general information, not compliance advice. Always confirm requirements with the relevant regulator, and remember that providers keep the legal responsibility to sight credentials and decide who can work.

We work hard to keep it accurate, but the rules change and we will not always get every detail right. If you think something here needs updating, email us at resources@koora.care. We would genuinely rather know, because we all do better when we help each other get it right.

Bring your compliance into one place
