How to apply: Teacher registration (TAS)

  1. Check eligibility first: teachers with early childhood (0 to 5) qualifications are not currently eligible for registration in Tasmania.
  2. Teachers who are eligible (for example, with a school teaching qualification) apply to the Teachers Registration Board for full, provisional or specialist VET registration.
  3. Hold current Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP): every applicant needs it.
  4. Pay the $65.09 application fee plus at least one year of the $121.32 annual fee ($186.41 in total).

How to renew: Teacher registration (TAS)

  1. Pay the annual fee, for one year at a time or up to five years ahead.
  2. Show either 120 full-time-equivalent days of teaching in the last five years or relevant professional development; the Board says about 20 hours a year would be reasonable.
  3. The Teachers Registration Bill 2026 would change this to 100 hours of professional development every five years, if it becomes law.

What employers must do

  • No registration duty applies to National Quality Framework early childhood employers today, because ECTs in those settings do not need to register.
  • Under the Teachers Registration Bill 2026, employing or engaging an unregistered teacher, including in an early childhood service, would become an offence. The Bill had not received Royal Assent when last updated on 7 September 2026, and its sections commence by proclamation.
  • Check any registration a teacher holds on the public register search.

What is specific to Tasmania

  • Tasmania has no early childhood teacher registration category, so interstate ECT registration is not recognised there under mutual recognition.
  • The Teachers Registration Bill 2026 (27 of 2026) passed the House of Assembly on 3 September 2026 and had its first reading in the Legislative Council the same day.
  • Tasmania uses Registration to Work with Vulnerable People rather than a Working with Children Check, and teacher applicants must hold it.

What Koora checks

Verified by Koora, point-in-time. Koora checks the registration number against the TRB Tasmania register search when the credential reaches Koora's review: when a worker shares their Career Passport, when a provider requests access, or across an organisation's own records where Crew is attached. The result is recorded with its date, so it is a point-in-time verification, and Koora tracks the expiry date. Koora does not monitor the registration between checks. A teaching qualification on its own is reviewed, never verified: the degree is not the registration.

Your team reviews each credential in Koora, or Crew does it for you. The provider keeps the legal responsibility for who they engage.
