How to apply: Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (TAS)
- Apply online for an RWVP, choosing the Employment/Volunteer class for paid work or the Volunteer class for unpaid work. A paid worker holding only a Volunteer registration commits an offence.
- Name the organisation you will work for, so it can be notified about your application.
- Pay $137.20 for Employment/Volunteer registration, online or at Service Tasmania. Volunteer registration is free under the current fee relief, and an employer can pay the fee for you through the Employer Portal.
- Allow up to six weeks. A new worker can start while the application is pending only if the employer confirms it is lodged and pending, supervises them with an RWVP holder at all times and has a risk management plan.
How to renew: Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (TAS)
- Watch for the reminders by email and/or text before your registration expires.
- Renew in MyRWVP. Renewing early does not shorten your current registration: the renewed one starts when the current one expires.
- Renewals can take longer than six weeks when volumes are high, so renew well ahead.
- If your registration expires you cannot work or volunteer in a regulated activity until a renewal is approved. You have 30 days after expiry to lodge a renewal; after that you start a new application.
What employers must do
- Check that each worker and volunteer holds an RWVP before they start, and that it stays current.
- Make sure your organisation is listed on each person's registration, adding it within 10 working days, so the Department can notify you if the registration is suspended, interim barred, cancelled or refused.
- Remove your organisation from a person's registration within 10 working days of them leaving.
- Make sure paid workers hold the Employment/Volunteer class: penalties apply if a paid worker holds only a Volunteer registration.
- Before engaging someone on an interstate check, confirm it is still valid.
What is specific to Tasmania
- RWVP covers vulnerable adults as well as children. The RWVP Expansion Project added new regulated activities from 1 April 2025, with further phases to come.
- An NDIS Worker Screening Check can be added to an RWVP as a category ($113.68 to upgrade).
- Tasmania is the most open of the states to interstate checks: an equivalent check covers short-term work, and a new resident can keep using it until it expires.
- The public status check does not show incomplete applications or suspended, cancelled, refused or expired registrations.
What Koora checks
Verified by Koora, point-in-time. Koora checks the clearance against the Tasmanian RWVP status check when the credential reaches Koora's review: when a worker shares their Career Passport, when a provider requests access, or across an organisation's own records where Crew is attached. The result is recorded with its date, so it is a point-in-time verification, and Koora then tracks the expiry date. Koora does not continuously monitor the clearance.
Your team reviews each credential in Koora, or Crew does it for you. The provider keeps the legal responsibility for who they engage.

This is general information, not compliance advice. Always confirm requirements with the relevant regulator, and remember that providers keep the legal responsibility to sight credentials and decide who can work.
We work hard to keep everything accurate, and our compliance engine keeps up with the rules as they change. Even so, we might get a detail slightly wrong or miss something. No one's perfect.
