Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)

Entry-level subsidised Aged Care support delivered in the home.

The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) is the entry-level rung of subsidised Aged Care delivered in a person's home. It covers help with things like cleaning, transport, meals, basic home maintenance and social support, usually for older people who need a hand to keep living independently but do not yet require a more intensive package.

For Aged Care workers, CHSP shifts are often the first place people start in the sector. The work is community-based and varied, and it brings workers into people's homes, which is why screening expectations apply just as they do elsewhere in Aged Care.

For providers, CHSP work falls under the same worker screening requirements that took effect from 1 November 2025. Each worker needs either a police certificate issued in the last three years or an NDIS Worker Screening Check. Those are the two accepted options. AHPRA registration is not a screening substitute, so it does not replace either of them. You can read more in the Aged Care worker screening requirements guide.

This is general information, not compliance advice. Always confirm requirements with the relevant regulator, and remember that providers keep the legal responsibility to sight credentials and decide who can work.

We work hard to keep it accurate, but the rules change and we will not always get every detail right. If you think something here needs updating, email us at resources@koora.care. We would genuinely rather know, because we all do better when we help each other get it right.
