How to apply: NDIS Worker Screening Check (NT)
- Apply online through NT Government services and upload four identity documents and a selfie. A special ID provisions form exists for people who cannot meet the requirements.
- Pay $149, or $14 as a volunteer with the Volunteer Declaration Form. Your employer can pay for you. Fees are not refundable.
- Your employer has 30 days to verify the application in the NDIS Worker Screening Database, or it is cancelled and the fee is lost.
- The NT is a work on application jurisdiction: once your employer has verified the application and agrees, has risk management strategies in place and arranges supervision by a cleared person, you can work while it is processed.
- There is no card. SAFE NT's email granting the clearance is your record: give it to your employer.
How to renew: NDIS Worker Screening Check (NT)
- Watch for the first reminder three months before expiry. Your linked employer is also notified once the clearance is within 90 days of expiry.
- Renew from 90 days before expiry through SAFE NT. You supply identity documents again, your National Worker Screening ID and a validation code emailed to your original address, and you nominate an employer to verify, even one you are already linked to.
- To keep working while it is processed, lodge the renewal in the NT, pay in full and have your employer verify it before your clearance expires.
- If you now live in the NT, you can renew through SAFE NT wherever your first check was issued. Once assessed, your expiry date moves out by five years.
What employers must do
- Identify which roles are risk-assessed and need a clearance.
- Verify your workers' applications within 30 days. Unverified applications are cancelled and the worker loses the fee.
- Do not allow an excluded worker into a risk-assessed role.
- For work on application, agree to it, put risk management strategies in place and arrange supervision by a cleared person.
- Link workers to your organisation in the NDIS Worker Screening Database when they start and unlink them when they leave. Linked employers are notified when a clearance is within 90 days of expiry.
What is specific to Northern Territory
- SAFE NT has no access to the NDIS Worker Screening Database, which the NDIS Commission manages. Employers check clearances there.
- An NDIS worker whose role deals with children also needs an Ochre Card, the NT's two-year Working with Children Clearance.
- Identity is checked online with four documents and a selfie, with no centre visit.
What Koora checks
Reviewed. Koora does not verify NDIS Worker Screening clearances against the NDIS Worker Screening Database today; source verification is on Koora's roadmap. The compliance engine checks the clearance against the requirements of each role, and Koora tracks its expiry date. A person reviews the evidence when a worker shares their Career Passport or a provider requests access, or across an organisation's own records where Crew is attached. Registered providers still verify and link their workers in the NDIS Commission portal themselves.
Your team reviews each credential in Koora, or Crew does it for you. The provider keeps the legal responsibility for who they engage.
